Summary
- We’re bringing access policies to task schemas, enabling access policies on specific schemas and READ and NONE access policies
- Once access policies are enabled on task schemas, you can’t disable them, and we plan to complete this rollout by end of July
- If you’re interested in enabling task schema access policies earlier than by end of July, reply in this thread or get in touch with your Benchling representative
-------------
Today, Benchling users either have ADMIN or CREATE access policies for task schemas.
- If you're an ORG Admin, you have ADMIN access policies on ALL task schemas
- If you're an ORG member, you have CREATE access policies on ALL task schemas
We’ve heard from many of you that this is an issue for two reasons.
- Every member of the organization has CREATE access, and perhaps they shouldn’t
- The list of all the tasks you can create is EXTRA LONG because everyone has access to create a task for every task schema
Once we introduce Task Schema Access Policies we'll introduce:
- The ability to have task schema specific access policies, much like entity schemas
- READ and NONE access policies for task schemas

This will make it possible to only give users access to the task schemas they truly need access to, and also constrain the list of possible task schemas a user can create.
Once task schema access policies are enabled, the SAME access policies will continue to exist on your Benchling tenant. The access policies will NOT change.
For example, a task schema access policy section might look like this after enabling access policies for task schemas.

Two important notes:
- Once you enable task schema access policies, you cannot disable them
- Task schema access policies will enabled for all Benchling customers to achieve platform parity with entity schemas
We’re still in the process of completing this work, and expect to begin rolling out access policies to task schemas in July, targeting a 2026.3 or 2026.4 validated cloud released depending on timing.
If you’re interested in enabling task schema access policies earlier than by end of July, reply in this thread or get in touch with your Benchling representative.
