We have an great new addition to the Benchling Product Guide family, aimed at helping those of us who struggle to efficiently push data into the Benchling system. Let us know which of these methods you prefer when uploading different types of data.Here’s what to expect from this BPG:Data Ingestion Methods - There are 4 main options for getting data into Benchling, listed below Single-Entity Import - For low volume imports Structured Table Import - Provides experimental context Spreadsheet Import - For infrequent large volume imports API Import - For ongoing or automated data imports Ingesting Physical Sample Data - Remember to register samples prior to creating containers within Benchling, samples can be added afterwards. I’ll start us off – a bit about me below.Born and raised just south of Minneapolis, Minnesota 🌲 Left the cold winters in search of sunshine and landed in Santa Barbara 🌤 where I live with my partner and 3 year old Australian Shepherd, Pickle 🐶. Best Practice Guide: TemplatesBenchling guide

If your scientists find themselves repeatedly performing the same experiments and struggling to capture that data in Benchling, templates could save the day. Trust me when I say, we won’t stop bringing it up until everyone is using templates to their maximum potential. Registering lots of entities? Use a template. Doing a plate-based workflow? Use a template. Even if you’re iterating on experimental procedures. Use. A. Template. Why? Because even if just the scaffolding of a beautiful notebook entry is pre-created for you, you’re likely to have better consistency, better structured data capture, and a better looking entry than if you use a blank one. What pains us worse than blank notebook entries? Watching people struggle to copy & paste elements into between notebook entries--it doesn’t work great. Do yourself a favor and USE A TEMPLATE. Knowing where your samples are is important – we have a tool for that! Inventory allows you to track the location of registered entities within your lab. We have some thoughts on how to do this effectively and hopefully as painlessly as possible. With the right setup (and a positive attitude) you’ll be able to have your scientists moving samples through your lab with ease ✨Best Practice for Users - Using Inventory Tables to Create and Fill Containers - If you’re a scientist and you’re using or generating samples as part of an experiment, you should use an Inventory Table within your Notebook Entry. Search might not be the flashiest or most talked about tool on Benchling, but it sure is important. Even Benchlings sometimes forget the power of Search--probably the most useful aspect of searching is distilling a list of entities based on certain parameters (and there are a lot to choose from), selecting those entities, and performing a bulk action such as moving the, registering them, exporting them, or editing them.
